The Farmer-First Initiative is a farmer-centric outreach model launched by Boresha Mavuno Agritech in February 2025 to re-center both farmers and youth especially women as co-creators of agricultural transformation in Uganda. Despite forming the majority of Africa’s agricultural labor force, these groups remain underrepresented in policy-making and underserved by traditional extension services. This initiative addresses that gap by combining participatory engagement, climate-smart training, and inclusive follow-up support. Currently active in Malaba and Mbale districts, the initiative has so far engaged and empowered 200+ smallholder farmers in co-developing solutions across four key areas: Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), agro-processing, waste-to-value practices, and sustainable land management.
The Farmers First Initiative is a farmer-led, participatory program currently active in Mbale and Malaba districts of Eastern Uganda. It places farmers at the center of agricultural transformation.
